College Point Junior High School To Replace Catholic School
The College Point community has been pushing for a new high school since 2013.
COLLEGE POINT, QUEENS — College Point families will finally be able to send their kids to school right in their neighborhood.
St. Fidelis School, which closed in 2013, will soon be replaced by JHS Q336 at 124-06 14th Ave. College Point's first middle school, with a capacity of 507 students, is set to open in 2018 with an incoming sixth-grade class.
College Point students previously had to attend JHS 185 in Flushing or 194 in Whitestone for middle school due to the lack of a junior high school in their neighborhood. Residents had started a petition for a new middle school in the site of the St. Fidelis School in 2013.

“We are thrilled to give the College Point community a local middle school to call its own,” Deputy Chancellor Elizabeth Rose told QNS. “This new school will help alleviate overcrowding throughout the district and provide students from the community with the facilities and resources they need to succeed.”
