Cops Shoot Gun-Firing 15-Year-Old Boy In Far Rockaway: NYPD

The teen was charged with attempted murder after firing the handgun into a crowd, police said.

FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS -- Police shot and wounded a 15-year-old boy who they say was firing a gun into a crowd in Far Rockaway on Friday night.

Officers were called to disperse a disorderly crowd near Redfern and Nameoke avenues at about 10:30 p.m., the NYPD said.

As the crowd was scattering, two cops said they noticed the teen firing a handgun toward it. The officers said they gave the boy several commands to drop the gun before opening fire and hitting him several times.

The teen was rushed to Long Island Jewish Hospital, where he is now in stable condition, authorities said. The officers were not hurt.

Police found the 15-year-old's Smith and Wesson handgun at the scene.

He was charged on Saturday with attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm.
