Elderly Queens Woman Fatally Hit By SUV On New Year's Day: Cops

On Wednesday, Ok J. Kang, 74, became the first pedestrian to be killed by a vehicle in New York City in 2020.

QUEENS, NEW YORK — An elderly Queens woman became the city's first pedestrian to be killed by a vehicle in 2020 when she was struck by an SUV on New Year's Day, police said.

Ok J. Kang, 74, was hit by a 2015 Jeep Cherokee near Northern and Parsons Boulevards about 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, said police.

Medics rushed Kang to New York Prespyterian Hospital but doctors could not save her life, police said.

The 43-year-old driver remained at the crash and did not immediately face charges, according to police.

Advocates dubbed Northern Boulevard the New Boulevard of Death after a 70-year-old man became the fourth person to die on the street in 2018, amNY reported at the time.
