Ridgewood Reservoir Community Tours

What: Explore the more than 50-acre natural oasis that is the Ridgewood Reservoir during this free tour. Though it became obsolete after new reservoirs were added in the Catskill Mountains in the 1950s and was decommissioned in the 1980s, the forest that has since grown here offers a glimpse of natural beauty on the border of Brooklyn and Queens
Where: Ridgewood Reservoir, Vermont Place at Highland Boulevard
When: Saturday at 10 a.m.

Private Guided Exploration of Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge & Bird Sanctuary
Neighborhood:
Broad Channel
What: Learn about the history of this wildlife refuge as you take a guided tour through its trails to spot egrets, ibis, herons and other shorebirds. Get an up-close-and-personal look at the native reptiles, amphibians, butterflies, horseshoe crabs and other critters that live there. Tour is guided by a National Park Service Ranger. Admission is free, but a $30 advance deposit is required to attend.
Where: Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center, 175-10 Cross Bay Boulevard
When: Saturday at 1 p.m.

Hot Jazz, Cool Garden

Cemetery Walking Tour

What: Take a stroll through the cemetery’s Victorian section, learn about funerary symbols and styles of the era and visit the gravesites of notable figures from the time period.
Where: Maple Grove Cemetery, Kew Garden Road at 129th Street
When: Explore the land of the dead Saturday at 2 p.m.
