JAMAICA, QUEENS — A massive COVID-19 vaccination site with the capacity to inoculate 3,000 people a day is opening Wednesday at York College in Queens, but only certain neighborhood residents will be eligible at first.

For the first week, vaccines will only be available to Queens residents who meet the current eligibility criteria — thanks to their age, occupation or underlying health conditions — and also live in one of the following ZIP codes: 11418, 11419, 11420, 11430, 11435, 11436, 11439, 11432, 11433, 11434, 11423, 11412, 11413, 11427, 11428, 11429, 11411, 11422, 11691, 11692, 11693.

"For one week, we're targeting certain communities with low vaccination rates and high positivity rates," Gov. Andrew Cuomo said.

The vaccine distribution facility is being established through a partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Once the York College site and a companion site at Brooklyn's Medgar Evers College open Wednesday, they will be the largest in the state.

To increase access to the site, the MTA will launch extra bus service from NYCHA and community centers in Queens, including a direct shuttle line from the Hammel Houses on the Rockaway Peninsula.

After the first week, vaccine appointments will open up to all eligible borough residents.

Eligible New Yorkers can schedule appointments through New York's 'Am I Eligible' website, by calling the state's COVID-19 Vaccination Hotline at 1-833-NYS-4-VAX (1-833-697-4829).

Appointments can also be made in-person at York College.
