Hundreds From Around The Nation Will Attend Queens Marathon This Weekend

There will also be a tune-up for those preparing for a marathon later in the spring.

QUEENS — On your marks! Around 400 runners are expected to descend on Flushing Meadows Corona Park this weekend for The Queens Marathon.

The marathon will kick off at the Universe Court starting at 8 a.m. this Sunday and consists of four loops around the park, adding up to 26.2 miles.

Registration for the race is $120 in advance and $160 on the day of the race. All participants need to pick up a package on March 25 between 1 and 7 p.m. at Queens Center Mall, located at 90-15 Queens Blvd. The packages will include Clif Bar products, bagels, spreads, and fresh fruit. There will also be giveaway for a T-shirt.

Awards will be given to the top three males and females as well as to the first three in each age group: 19 and under, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over. And, of course, all those who finish before the time limit will receive a medal.

The track is certified a Boston Qualifier by the USA Track & Field for those who wish to qualify for the Boston Marathon.

For those training for a marathon later in the spring, a tune-up will be also be held along with Queens Marathon. The course will be three loops on the same track as the marathon and will add up to just about 20 miles. Registration for the tune-up will be $60 beforehand and $80 on the day of the marathon. There will be no awards for winners but everyone participating will receive a medal.
