QUEENS, NY — A slick new runway is coming to JFK International Airport this winter.

The TWA Hotel is opening an ice skating rink this month, giving guests the chance to take a spin on the tarmac.

The hotel's 56-by-44-foot "runway rink," made from 3,500 gallons of New York City tap water, makes its debut Nov. 30. It will be open seven days a week through the end of February.

"Normally, when you hear about ice at the airport, it’s not good news," said Tyler Morse, CEO of MCR/MORSE Development, the hotel's owner-operator. "But in this case, people can get excited about a frozen tarmac at JFK — we're creating the Rockefeller Center of Queens."

General admission to the ice rink costs $15, and ice skates are available to rent for $10.

The TWA Hotel opened this May in the former Trans World Airlines terminal, designed by architect Eero Saarinen in 1962. The landmarked terminal had been closed to the public for nearly two decades.
