FLUSHING, QUEENS — Long Island Rail Road trains will make an additional stop at Citi Field starting Wednesday to help transport people to and from the baseball stadium's 24-hour COVID-19 vaccination site opening that day.

All Port Washington branch trains on the LIRR will stop at Mets-Willets Point around the clock for as long as the vaccination site remains open, the MTA said in a news release.

Direct service will be available from Penn Station, Woodside and all stations along the Port Washington line; riders using other LIRR branches will have to transfer at Woodside to get to the station.

“We are proud to provide LIRR service as an additional means of travel getting everyone vaccinated as quickly as possible in our fight against this pandemic,” LIRR President Phil Eng said in a statement. “With the light at the end of the tunnel shining brighter we ask everyone to stay vigilant and practice all the necessary safety measures keeping yourself and others safe.”

The 7 train also serves Citi Field, but the ongoing closure of the city's subway system between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. means the subway is not an option for those with vaccine appointments during those hours.

Under the updated schedule, LIRR trains will service Citi Field one to three times during the hours the subway system is closed, depending on the direction and day.

The Long Island Rail Road will cross-honor MetroCard and OMNY in that timeframe, according to MTA spokesperson Aaron Donovan. Riders can use their CityTicket on weekends if traveling to or from a New York City station.

The Q48 and Q66 buses also stop at Citi Field, and the MTA is looking into adding more bus service to vaccination sites, the spokesperson said.

The Citi Field vaccination site will be open around the clock Wednesdays through Saturdays starting this week and will cater to TLC-licensed drivers, food service workers and Queens residents, according to the mayor's office.

The site will have the capacity to offer 800 vaccine doses a week, or 200 a day, according to a City Hall spokesperson.

Eligible Queens residents, TLC drivers and food delivery workers can make vaccine appointments here or by calling 877-VAX-4NYC.
