Man Killed In Hit-And-Run On Long Island Expressway: Police

A man walking along the Long Island Expressway in Queens died early Monday after a driver crashed into him, then sped away, police said.

QUEENS, NY — A man walking along the Long Island Expressway in Queens was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Monday, according to the police.

The man was walking on the westbound side of the highway near Exit 19 just after 5 a.m. when a driver slammed into him and raced away, police said in a news release. He died shortly after.

The crash happened near the border of Elmhurst, Rego Park and Middle Village and prompted authorities to close all westbound lanes of the LIE, WCBS 880 reported.

Authorities have not released the man's name or a description of the vehicle that hit him.
