MASPETH, QUEENS — The MetroCard van is coming to central Queens next month.

State Senator Joseph P. Addabbo Jr. will bring the MetroCard Van to Maspeth and Middle Village on May 29 to give locals a way to buy and refill their cards.

The MTA's MetroCard vans and buses regularly traverse the city to help New Yorkers buy and refill their cards, apply for reduced-fare cards and report lost or stolen cards.

The need for those services is particularly pressing in Queens, where limited access to subway stations means limited access to MetroCard vending machines.

"By bringing the MetroCard Van into these communities, it gives my constituents, especially the elderly and those who only use the bus as part of their commute, the chance to have these services right in their neighborhood," Addabbo said.

A map on the MTA website shows delis, supermarkets and other businesses that sell MetroCards, which can be a lifeline for residents of so-called transit deserts.

On May 29, the MetroCard Van will park outside the Maspeth Federal Savings Bank at 56-18 69th St. from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The van will then move to St. Margaret’s Senior Center, located at 66-05 79th Place in Middle Village, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
