New York Music Month Brings Free Concerts, Events

The full slate of music related events was announced for the third annual New York Music Month this June.

QUEENS, NY — A new radio show and nine free concerts across The Bronx and Queens headline the lineup for the third annual New York Music Month in June.

The full list of events and activities were announced Wednesday by the Mayor's Office of Media and Entertainment Commissioner Anne del Castillo and "NY is Music" co-founder Justin Kalifowitz.

Other events during the action-packed month include a conference for middle school and high school students on music and technology, a 24-hour song writing competition, free music history walking tours of New York City neighborhoods and access to rehearsal space for musicians, according to a press release from the NYC Office of Media & Entertainment.

"We are so pleased to present New York Music Month, back for a third year with a terrific slate of diverse programming for musicians and music lovers of all ages," said MOME Commissioner Castillo. "This initiative is a celebration of all that our city's thriving music industry has to offer."

NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver added, "There's nothing quite like the energy and excitement of a concert in the park."

June 1, 1-3 p.m. (The Dirty Sock Funtime Band, and Alex and the Kaleidoscope - MacDonald Park)

June 9, 3-6 p.m. (British Dependency, Mr. Kool, and Paul Brown - St. Alban's Park)

June 15, 7-9 p.m. (Orquesta Afinke - Gorman Playground)

June 22, 1-3 p.m. (The History of Rock and Roll Band - MacNeil Park)

June 29, 7-9 p.m. (Disco Unlimited - Hunters Point South Park)

The Bronx:

June 8, 7-9 p.m. (Bobby Sanabria - Playground 52)

June 15, 1-3 p.m. (Uptown Vinyl Supreme, a DJ Collective, Ana Garcia, DJ Perly and Grandmaster Caz - Poe Park)

June 22, 5-7 p.m. (Yasser Tejeda - Franz Sigel Park)

June 29, 7-9 p.m. (Therapi Band - Stars and Stripes Playground)
