The latest census data shows tens of thousands of people are leaving New York City.

QUEENS, NY — People are fleeing Queens more than any other borough in New York City, according to the latest census data.

The city lost a total of 39,523 residents, the data shows.

The population estimates released by the Census Bureau Thursday show the southern and western United States saw the largest increases in population.
On the metro level, the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington area had the largest numeric growth in population, followed by the Phoenix-Mesa-Scottsdale area. A natural increase in population — having more births than deaths — was the largest source of population growth in the Dallas area while domestic migration was the largest source for the Phoenix area, the Census Bureau said.
