Petland Discounts To Close Dozens Of NYC Stores

QUEENS, NY – Petland Discounts, the Tri-State area pet supply company that opened its firsst store in Queens, is closing all of its shops in New York.

The closing comes after the death of the company's sole owner, Neil Padron, from bladder cancer earlier this month, according to Pet Product News. Padron, a Queens native, was 74.

Padron opened his first store in Glen Oaks, Queens, in 1965. The company grew to have more than 100 locations in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

It had 69 locations in New York and all of them are expected to close by April 18, according to filings with the state Labor Department. The closures will leave 367 people across the state without jobs.
