Probation Union Endorses Leroy Gadsden, Alfonso Quiroz
United Probation Officers Association President Dalvanie Powell Announces First Round of Endorsements in NYC Races Before June 22 Primary

The United Probation Officers Association (UPOA), a union representing more than 800 active probation professionals in New York City, announced the first two endorsements in New York City Council races today. The union plans to announce its endorsement in the race for New York City mayor in the coming weeks.
The union is endorsing Leroy Gadsden in District 27 (Cambria Heights, Hollis Jamaica, St. Albans, Queens Village, Springfield Gardens) and Alfonso Quiroz in District 25 (Jackson Heights/Elmhurst).
Gadsden is a criminal justice professor in the CUNY system, and served as president of the Jamaica branch of the NAACP for 10 years. Additionally, he serves as a deacon at Mt. Olivet Baptist Church in Hollis.

He is someone who respects and identifies with us as criminal justice professionals, and champions equity and inclusivity. We look forward to working with him to ensure that New York City stands as a beacon of hope and promise.”
Alfonso Quiroz is a community advocate, public affairs professional, former President of the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Queens, and former deputy chief of staff to the previous Council Member in his community.

“We wholeheartedly endorse Alfonso Quiroz for City Council in District 25,” Powell said. “Alfonso clearly understands the needs of our members, and he commits to supporting us as we seek equity and fairness from the City. He, like us, believes that we must seek alternatives to incarceration so that more New Yorkers can be given a second chance to succeed. We need more creative thinkers and doers like Alfonso who will lead our city through the challenging days ahead.”
