The truck driver remained at the scene and was arrested.

ELMHURST, QUEENS — A 1-year-old baby died in East Elmhurst Thursday night after getting hit by a truck, according to police.

The mother and her baby Skylar Perkins were crossing 23rd Avenue at the 94th Street intersection when a Dodge truck turning onto 23rd Avenue hit the baby's stroller, an NYPD spokesman said. Police responded to the call around 8.45 p.m. Thursday night to find the baby had sustained injuries around her body. Responding officers rushed the mother and her baby to Elmhurst General Hospital, where the toddler was pronounced dead.

The truck driver Ramirez Wallace, 44, remained on the scene. He was arrested and charged with failure to yield to a pedestrian and failure to exercise due care, police said.
