Queens Public Library to Host Bystander Prevention Trainings
Sessions held Tues-Thurs in Korean, Mandarin and English this week

Amid the rise in anti-Asian American Pacific Islander hate and violence in the city, Queens Public Library will host a series of bystander intervention trainings in Korean, Chinese and English in collaboration with the New York City Commission on Human Rights.
“The year-long rise in anti-Asian acts of racism, hate, harassment, and violence is a devastating reminder of the long history of such incidents in our country,” said QPL President and CEO Dennis M. Walcott. “They are alarming and intolerable. The Library stands in solidarity with our Asian and Asian American communities, with our neighbors, friends, and colleagues, as we combat bigotry and hate and advance racial equity and inclusion. This week’s bystander trainings are part of the Library’s broader, ongoing work to build resilience and unity in our communities.”
The virtual, interactive workshops are intended for people of Asian descent and allies to respond effectively and take action. During the sessions – each expected to last about 1 ½ hours – participants will learn strategies and tips to respond to harassment and violence and protect themselves and others in the community.
