Queens Symphony Orchestra To Play 4 Free Concerts

The Queens Symphony Orchestra's free concert series returns this month.

QUEENS, NY — The Queens Symphony Orchestra's free concert series returns this month.

The orchestra's fifth season kicks off May 6 with a patriotic-themed performance in Fort Tilden, one of four free performances this summer.

More than a thousand people attended last year's concert series, according to City Council Member Eric Ulrich, who funds the performances. The genres range from jazz to Broadway show tunes to opera.

"When I fund these concerts, I want to make sure that everyone in our community has the opportunity to see them," Ulrich said in a statement. "Many people cannot afford to attend shows like these, and the Queens Symphony Orchestra concert series gives them the opportunity to experience high-quality music at no-cost."

This year's lineup includes two new musical themes: Baroque Bass and A Festival of Winds. The last performance is opera-themed, in keeping with a series tradition.
