Queensboro FC are looking for young talent for their Academy club as they announce tryouts for the first time in club history. Queensboro FC have joined the newly formed USL Academy League. The recently developed league will provide local players a path to become pro at a cheaper price than the traditional academies.

The USL Academy League will be divided into seven regions with the QBFC Academy playing in the Northeast Division alongside 12 other teams. QBFC Academy will be coached by the senior team’s Head Coach Josep Gombau.

“It’s a very exciting time right now for Queensboro FC, as the QBFC Academy represents the very first stages of building the future of our club through the recruitment and development of young, quality players,” said Josep Gombau.

Queensboro FC ownership group is lead by international soccer star David Villa who played across the river in the Bronx for the New York City Football Club. At his time with NYCFC Villa won the Major League Soccer Most Valuable Player award in 2016, followed by an ESPY for the “Best MLS Player” the following year. The former Spanish striker believes these tryout will be important to the club getting on the right foot.

“QBFC Academy is a vital part of the success of our club,” said David Villa. “I have always been extremely passionate about giving undiscovered players an opportunity to be seen for their soccer talent, and I believe our organization will do a world-class job of finding, coaching and elevating an incredible new generation of players for Queens, the United States, and beyond.”

The tryouts for the QBFC Academy will take place on November 4th and 5th at the Sports Underdome in Mt. Vernon, New York. QBFC expects a tremendous turnout with young soccer talent coming from all over the 5 boroughs. To sign up for the tryouts all local players will have to sign up through the Queensboro FC app.

Tryouts will be open to boys from the age of 15-18 and for all local residents of Queens they will refund the registration fee making it free-of-charge. QBFC Academy will be fully-funded for all of its members which goes against the traditional model in which player are paying to play the game.

QBFC also hired Technical Director Luis Gutierrez. Gutierrez is no stranger to New York Football as he joined the New York Cosmos in 2015 and was part of the coaching staff that won the 2015 and 2016 North American Soccer League championships. Gutierrez is on the edge of his seat in anticipation for tryouts.

“I am looking forward to hosting our very first tryouts next month, as it represents another milestone for the club. We are expecting a tremendous turnout, with about 80% of registrations so far representing Queens,” said Luis Gutierrez.

The QBFC Academy Clubs inaugural season will begin in 2021 and they plan to play in a new stadium at York College and play some games in Citi Field.
