Shark Washes Up On Rockaway Beach
An injured shark washed up on Rockaway Beach on Monday after getting caught in a nearby jetty.
FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS — An injured shark washed up on Rockaway Beach on Monday after getting caught in a nearby jetty.
The thresher shark came ashore near Beach 102nd Street during the afternoon and died shortly after, according to parks department spokesperson Charisse Hill.
The shark seemed to have gotten hurt after it became stuck in the jetty at Beach 86th Street, Hill said. It appeared bloodied when it washed up on the shore.

The shark appeared just two days before beaches are due to officially open for swimming.
New Yorkers can report wild animal sightings to the WildlifeNYC website and should only call 911 when wildlife is posing a clear threat to public safety, according to the parks department.
