Things To Do In Queens This Weekend

QUEENS, NY -- The entire city may have just been buried in a snowpocalypse, but don't let that stop you from getting out and enjoying this weekend in Queens.
Here are some fun things to do throughout the borough that won't force you to drive too far in the snow this weekend.
'Queens Gotta Have It' Pop Up Exhibit

What: A two-day pop up art exhibit highlighting the perspectives of Generations Y & Z on the word "culture." Sponsored by the Voice Of Youth Changes Everything (VOYCE), this pop up asked artists to submit work portraying what "culture" means to them.

What: On the first Friday and third Tuesdays of every month, Q.E.D. hosts a social drawing event focused on figure drawing a live model - Stick figures and hand-turkeys welcome! Each event has a unique theme, new models, and plenty to drink. Tickets cost $10 in advance or $12 at the door.

Queens Elected Officials Vs. Young Democrats Charity Basketball Game
Neighborhood: Astoria
What: Queens County Young Democrats will face off against the county's elected officials in the organization's fourth annual charity basketball game. Tickets cost $5, with proceeds benefitting Variety Boys & Girls Club of Queens, the largest after-school program in Western Queens. Canned goods will also be collected in disaster relief efforts for Puerto Rico.

When: Saturday, Jan. 6, 6-8 p.m.
New Year's Resolution Run
Neighborhood: Long Island City
What: Kick off the first Saturday of the year with a New Years Resolution 5K run around Queens, ending with bagels and hot chocolate at the Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge. All level runners are welcome, just make sure you're dressed warm and ready to run. The run is free to Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge members, but guests must pay a standard Day Pass rate.
Where: Meet at Brooklyn Boulders Queensbridge, located at 23-10 41st Ave., on the mezzanine level.
When: Saturday, Jan. 6, 10 a.m. - noon
Make It: Light Sabers
Neighborhood: Flushing
What: Explore light and simple circuits while creating brilliantly glowing lightsabers in this 90-minute workshop. This New York Hall Of Science class is recommended for kids ages 6 and older and costs $5 per adult/child pair plus admission.
Where: New York Hall Of Science, 47-01 111th St.
When: Sunday, Jan. 7, 1:30 - 3 p.m.
