Upcoming Festival To Feature NYPD's Queens-Made Honey

The Honey Fest in Far Rockaway next month will feature local honey from the rooftop of the police department's 104th Precinct in Ridgewood.

FAR ROCKAWAY, QUEENS — Queens is about to get a lot sweeter.

The ninth annual Honey Fest is coming to Far Rockaway next month, featuring a particularly buzz-worthy guest: NYPD beekeeper Darren Mays and local honey from the rooftop of the police department's 104th Precinct in Ridgewood.

It's the NYPD's only rooftop hive and houses more than 30,000 honeybees, according to Business Insider.

Mays formed the makeshift bee hive on the roof of his precinct office during the summer of 2017, after a particularly busy season of bee calls, he told Business Insider.

New Yorkers can get a taste of the department's honey during the Honey Fest in the Rockaways on Sept. 14, which will feature a host of other local apiaries.
