QUEENS, NY — The NYC Department of Parks & Recreation is celebrating the holiday season by lighting up the five boroughs with special seasonal displays.

The parks department is delivering holiday cheer at 80 sites across New York City, including more than a dozen throughout Queens.

From a Christmas tree lighting in Astoria's Athens Square Park to a menorah lighting in Cunningham Park in Fresh Meadows, Queens residents looking to avoid the crowds at Rockefeller Center have ample options for safe holiday outings close to home.

“We know that throughout this challenging year, people have looked to our parks for refuge and recreation, and we want to continue inspiring joy by spreading holiday cheer," NYC Parks Commissioner Mitchell J. Silver said in a statement. "We hope that our lights can help illuminate the hearts of all New Yorkers as we celebrate the holidays and what they mean to us all.”
