Hangar 11 Bar And Grill Turns 5
Neighborhood:
Kew Gardens
What: Celebrate the fifth birthday of this Queens-based bar and restaurant with free Heineken and Dos Equis from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Where: Metropolitan Avenue at Lefferts Boulevard
When: The drinks start pouring Friday at 7 p.m.

Kew Gardens Festival Of Cinema
Neighborhood:
Forest Hills
What: This local festival, now in its second year, is designed to highlight independent films and filmmakers. Last year’s event featured more than 150 movies from all over the globe.

When: The film fun begins this Friday at 12 p.m. and concludes with a 6 p.m. awards dinner gala on Sunday, Aug. 12.

2008 Uprising: 10-Year Commemoration
Neighborhood:
Astoria
What: Event includes a keynote speech from Dhondup Wangchen, a Tibetan political prisoner who was held captive during the 2008 Tibet uprising. Other guests of honor include activists who led the resistance movement 10 years ago. The evening will conclude with dinner and a Tibetan dance performance.

Movies Under The Stars: “Coco”

What: Bring the kids and check out a free screening of this family-friendly Disney Pixar film about a little boy’s journey to the Land of the Dead.

The Life of Art Books: Circulation, Distribution, Exchange

Long Island City
What: The first in a monthlong series that explores the world of New York art publishing, featuring a panel discussion led by Megan Liberty, editor of Brooklyn Rail’s Art Books. This weekend’s topic focuses on the different functions these books serve in various environments, including exhibitions, commercial spaces, scholarly research and more.
Where: Artbook at MoMA PS1 Bookstore, Jackson Avenue between 46th Avenue and 46th Road
When: Sunday at 1 p.m.
