ROCHESTER, NY — A man has been charged with murder in connection to the death of his 101-year-old neighbor in Rochester, according to police.

Rochester police and fire responded to an apartment complex on Tuesday to check on the welfare of a female resident. Providers of senior services contacted 911 after they were unable to reach the woman.

The woman was found dead in her apartment, police say. According to The Associated Press, the woman, Marcia Morrison, was stabbed multiple times. The AP reports Morrison had celebrated her 101st birthday this month.

During the investigation, in an unrelated incident, police say that a nearby resident was detained after approaching a 13-year-old girl and offering her money to come back to his home. A member of the community intervened to protect the girl and called 911, police say.

The man, 54-year-old Greg Jesner, was later connected to the death of the 101-year-old woman, according to police. Jesner is being charged with second-degree murder, police said.

Jesmer pleaded not guilty Wednesday in a Rochester court to second-degree murder. He was ordered held in the Monroe County jail without bail.

Police say that based on evidence they have, Jesner and the woman were neighbors and acquaintances.

Morrison had no children and her husband, Raymond Morrison, died decades ago.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
