Each year, this award, presented as a boxing-style title belt, is given to an organization that best demonstrates its “Pets for Life” principles, which “takes a comprehensive, long-term approach to addressing the inequity in and lack of access to pet resources…in underserved communities through door-to-door community outreach and pet owner support services.”
Rochester Animal Services has an Outreach and Support Team that builds relationships, shares information, and provides guidance and support to community members. Through its work, this team is helping people overcome barriers by providing services for city residents in the care, training, and spaying and neutering of their pets.

“Rochester Animal Services is an important community resource for residents and pet owners,” said Mayor Warren. “A socially-conscious municipal animal care and control organization enhances the quality of life in our city and is a critical component to creating safer, more vibrant neighborhoods. I am very proud of the great work of all the staff and volunteers who serve our community of people and animals.”
“This award was entirely unexpected because all of the Pets for Life cohorts are doing inspiring work,” said Rochester Animal Services Director, Chris Fitzgerald. “I was honored to accept the award on behalf of our team. This award recognizes our efforts to meet people where they are, build relationships, overcome barriers and support the human-animal bond in our city.”
