Rochester To Implement Pedestrian Safety Action Plan

A Public Meeting will be held on November 17, 2020 at 5 pm, via Zoom.

Project Overview

The Pedestrian Safety Action Plan will upgrade approximately 250 signalized and unsignalized pedestrian crossings within the City of Rochester. There are more unsignalized than signalized crossings to be upgraded. The majority of these locations are at intersections while several
are mid-block crossings.

Types of treatments will vary by location including, but not limited to, the following at signalized intersections:

  • Reflective backplates
  • High visibility crosswalk markings
  • Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI)
  • Accessible pedestrian signals
  • Raised pedestrian median refuge
  • Curb extensions

At unsignalized intersections and mid-block crossings, the following types of treatments may include, but are not limited to:

  • Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB)
  • Signage
  • High visibility crosswalk markings
  • Raised table crosswalks
