2 Local Beaches Closed To Bathing Due To High Levels Of Bacteria
The two Suffolk beaches will be closed to bathing until further notice due to the finding of high levels of bacteria in the waters.
SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — Bayport Beach in Bayport and Sayville Marine Park Beach in Sayville have closed to bathing due to the finding of high levels of bacteria, Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. Gregson Pigott announced on Thursday.
According to Pigott, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
The beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have lowered to acceptable levels.
