SAYVILLE, NY — Several local gardens were honored with the Sayville Garden Club’s Spring 2020 Beautification Awards recently. This year, the Sayville Fire Department, Cull House Restaurant and Corinne Heeger’s gardens on Third Street in West Sayville were the recipients of the awards.

The first winner was the popular Cull House seafood restaurant on River Road in Sayville, which has been open all spring for curbside pickup. Amid the pandemic, guests have been able to enjoy outside dining near beautiful planters and in garden settings.

Secondly, the garden that fire chief Walter Reutlinger and fire department member Bob Smith designed and planted the front garden at the North Main Street for the ninth year in a row received the award as well. This year, the garden featured flowers in Sayville’s colors of purple and gold. Smith has had a number of roles at the department including rescue captain and now is part of the maintenance team.

Lastly avid gardener, Heeger also received the award. She has transformed the property she bought 20 years ago to accentuate her many garden spaces. Her expansive backyard patio is filled with unusual evergreens and beautiful and unique flowers. She has also creatively filled every little nook and cranny with decorative elements.
