6 Suffolk Beaches Closed To Bathing

The beaches were closed due to the finding of bacteria in the water.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - Six more Suffolk County beaches are closed to bathing due to the finding of bacteria, health officials announced on Thursday.

The closed beaches include:

  • Sayville Marina Park Beach
  • Bayport Beach
  • Islip Beach
  • Benjamins Beach in Bay Shore
  • Corey Beach in Bayport
  • Venetian Shores Beach in Lindenhurst

In addition, West Islip Beach and Tanner Park Beach in Copiague remain closed.

Beaches will reopen when further testing reveals that the bacteria have subsided to acceptable levels.

According to Suffolk County Commissioner of Health Dr. James Tomarken, bathing in bacteria-contaminated water can result in gastrointestinal illness, as well as infections of the eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
