65 MPH Winds May Knock Out Power; Flash Flood Watch Issued
What you need to know on a major storm that's set to impact the island on the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Sandy.

Heavy rain and winds up to 65 mph will likely lead to power outages and flooding on Long Island Sunday and Monday. The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch and a high wind warning for the entire island.
Deepening low pressure along the mid-Atlantic coast Sunday will interact with a tropical feed of moisture, producing heavy rain showers along with embedded thunderstorms, the NWS says. Widespread rainfall amounts of 2 to 3 inches are expected, with localized higher amounts of up to 6 inches.
"While the area has been dry over the last couple of months, recent heavy rains this week and the likelihood of additional significant rainfall has necessitated the issuance of a flash flood watch," a NWS forecast discussion says.

The flash flood watch will be in effect from noon Sunday until 6 a.m. Monday. A high wind warning takes effect at 6 p.m. Sunday and expires at 6 a.m. Monday. Sustained southeast winds of 35-45 mph are likely with gusts up to 65 mph possible.
Widespread power outages are likely as high winds blow down trees and power lines, the NWS says. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
