After a month-long investigation, an arrest was made in connection to a hit-and-run crash that critically injured a 76-year-old bicyclist.

BLUE POINT, NY —An arrest has been made on Tuesday in connection to a hit-and-run that critically injured a bicyclist in Blue Point last month, according to Suffolk Police. Following a month-long investigation, detectives found that 36-year-old Robert Xavier, of Selden, was driving the 2010 Lincoln Navigator that struck 76-year-old Frannie Columbine, of Blue Point, who was riding a bicycle northbound on Blue Point Avenue just before 12 p.m. on April 6, police said.

Xavier was making a left-hand turn from Blue Point Avenue onto Middle Road when he struck Columbine before fleeing the scene, police said. Columbine was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. He is currently recovering from his injuries.

Xavier was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with serious physical injury, police said. He was given a Desk Appearance Ticket and is scheduled to be arraigned on May 22 at First District Court in Central Islip.
