Bayport-Blue Point School Budget, Trustee Election

Here's what you need to know before heading to the polls next week.

BAYPORT-BLUE POINT, NY — Residents in the Bayport-Blue Point School District will head to the polls next week to cast their ballots for a proposed school budget and to elect school board trustees.

Polls will be open on May 18 from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. at the Bayport-Blue Point High School gym.

The Board of Education is proposing a $76.9 million budget for the 2021-22 school year.

That represents a 1.81 percent spending increase over the current year and it comes with a 2.94 percent hike in the school tax levy.

Also on the ballot will be whether or not to approve a transportation proposition. If passed, the Community Transportation Referendum would add $91,595 to the proposed budget and reduce the district’s current mileage limitation, which would provide transportation to 190 additional students.

Two at-large seats are up for grabs on the Bayport-Blue Point Board of Education. Incumbents Matthew Seery and William Holl will not be seeking re-election. Adrienne Cirone and Elizabeth Cavuto will both be running for Serry's seat while Julia Pendola will be running unopposed for Holl's seat.
