Bayport-Blue Point Students Perform "Once Upon a Mattress"

Play retold popular Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale.

Comical characters descended upon a stage set for medieval times as Bayport-Blue Point High School students performed the musical “Once Upon a Mattress.”

The play retold the popular Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale “The Princess and the Pea.” Under the law, no one shall marry until Queen Aggravain’s son, Prince Dauntless, marries. However, every petitioning princess is dismissed after failing an unfair test set by the Queen. That is, until Sir Harry travels to the swamps and brings back Princess Winnifred for Prince Dauntless. Not quite up to the queen’s standards, she immediately begins to plot to rid their lives of the new candidate with the assistance of her wizard sidekick.

The students entertained audiences of all ages during their three-night run in early February, including area senior citizens who were invited to a complimentary performance before opening weekend.
