Brookhaven: Shelter Dogs In Need Of Temporary Home
Town asking residents to put dogs up during four-week renovation project.

The Town of Brookhaven says about 40 dogs need a place to stay while the town makes renovations to one of the kennels at the Animal Shelter and Adoption Center in Brookhaven hamlet.
The renovation project is slated to begin on Jan. 6, but all of the dogs housed in that section of the center will need to be relocated before the workers can begin. To that end, town officials, including Supervisor Ed Romaine and Councilwoman Jane Bonner are asking Brookhaven residents to come forward and temporarily adopt the dogs.
The adoption contract will last about four weeks, the expected length of the construction project, after which residents can return the dog to the shelter.

“I’ve always found that animal lovers step up when needed,” Supervisor Romaine stated in a release. “This is work that really needs to get done now and with only a few weeks to go before it begins, I am hoping that our residents will heed the call and take a dog home, even if it’s just for a little while.”
Those interested in temporarily adopting a dog must fill out a contract with the Animal Shelter and the contract must be notarized. The shelter and adoption center is located at 300 Horseblock Road in Brookhaven. Hours of operation are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The shelter is closed on Wednesdays.
