Drunken Man Causes Wrong-Way Fatal Crash On Long Island: Police

A man was driving in the wrong direction on a highway early Sunday, which led to the death of a 73-year-old man, police say.

OAKDALE, NY — A man is dead after a Hempstead man drunkenly drove the wrong way on Sunrise Highway and caused a collision early Sunday, Suffolk police said.

Noel Pastora, 56, of Hempstead, was driving a 2000 Dodge Dakota westbound in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway, west of Locust Avenue, in Oakdale, when his vehicle struck an eastbound sedan at 1:49 a.m., police said.

Dominick Capizola, 73, of Sayville, who was driving the sedan, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Pastora was charged with driving while intoxicated. He is due to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
