Garbarino 'Confident' In Victory In Congressional Race
While Andrew Garbarino is very confident he will be named the winner, his opponent Jackie Gordon is still waiting on the absentee ballots.
LONG ISLAND, NY — With the unofficial results in, Republican Andrew Garbarino is very confident in his potential victory against Democrat Jackie Gordon on Wednesday.
After all districts reported in both Suffolk and Nassau, Garbarino took a significant lead in the race for New York's second congressional district, which was previously run by Republican Peter King. Last year, the longtime politician announced his retirement, leaving the seat open for the first time in nearly three decades.

In response, he released the following statement:
I am honored to have received such amazing support from the great people of New York’s 2nd Congressional District. While there are more votes to be counted, I am confident we will be named the winner in this election. I cannot truly express in words my gratitude to the hundreds of volunteers for all their help in getting our message out -- walking door to door, making phone calls, delivering and putting out lawn signs across the district and so much more. I am so thankful for each one of you, and am truly honored to have such great support. I would also like to thank my opponent for running a spirited race. As your representative, I will collaborate with all of our community's stakeholders to make our district an even better place to live, work and raise a family. It has been a privilege to serve New York’s 7th Assembly District for the past seven years. I am honored and excited to continue to work hard on behalf of all the great people in New York’s 2nd Congressional district in Washington. In addition to supporting small businesses and fighting to lower taxes, I have stood with our brave law enforcement, fought to preserve our environment, supported our veterans, and delivered results for Long Island families. I look forward to building on these pillars and continuing to serve the working class residents of the south shore. As a neighborhood and nation, we are faced with many hurdles ahead. We must come together to solve these important issues as one community -- not allow ourselves to continue to divide on political party lines. Of course everyone won’t agree on everything all the time, and that’s okay. Taking different ideas and perspectives into consideration is important to efficiently and effectively find solutions to the problems we face. As your Congressman. I am excited to work with everyone and anyone to continue to move both our community and our country to new heights.
However with the absentee ballots still needing to be counted, Gordon is still waiting to officially call the race.
"With the unprecedented number of Long Islanders casting absentee ballots this year, it is clear that this election will not be called anytime soon," Remmington Belford, Gordon's Communications Director, said in a statement. "To certify the results of this election, every vote must be counted, and we look forward to seeing the final results."
