Oakdale McDonald's Ribbon Cutting Ceremony this past weekend

The community McDonald's in Oakdale celebrates with community leaders and Boy Scout Troop 205!

A Ribbon Cutting ceremony at the newly remodeled Oakdale McDonald’s located at 4498 Sunrise Highway took place Saturday, June 8th. The local McDonald’s owners were joined by Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, Suffolk County Legislator Tom Cilmi, Councilman John Cochrane Jr, Councilman James O'Connor, Assemblyman Steve Stern and representation from Assemblyman Andrew Garbarino and Councilwoman Mary Kate Mullen. The ribbon cutting commenced with an amazing flag raising ceremony by Boy Scout Troop 205. After the ribbon cutting, invitees joined the local McDonald’s owners for McCafe and pastries.

The Grand Re-Opening was kicked off with an Earth Day Celebration in April, joined by the Girl Scouts from the Oakdale/Bohemia Unit 39 and a visit from Islip Town Supervisor Angie Carpenter, where white spruce seedlings were given away to customers. Ever since the store re-opened, it has welcomed customers with an array of events each weekend through June. An Easter Bunny Appearance, Face Painting, a Magician and a Petting Zoo where the children got to feed the animals. A visit from the local heroes of the West Sayville Fire Department emphasizing the importance of fire safety. And the children got to go on the fire truck, try on some gear and shoot water from the fire house.

But the Grand Re-Opening campaign that was both praised and embraced by the Oakdale community was a tribute to those who have served and are serving our country. On Memorial Day, Veterans were recognized and thanked for their service with a complimentary breakfast which was offered all day. This had special significance to owner/operator Anthony Liedtke, as he served in Vietnam.
