Person At Sayville Middle School Tests Positive For Coronavirus
School officials did not specify if the person was a student or a staff member. A contact tracing investigation has begun.
SAYVILLE, NY — A person at Sayville Middle School tested positive for the coronavirus, according to a message from Superintendent John Stimmel.
On Thursday, Stimmel announced that the district received word that the person tested positive for COVID-19. It was not specified if the person was a student or staff member.
"The district has been working closely with the Suffolk County Department of Health," Stimmel wrote. "Students and staff at the Middle School who were in close or proximate contact with the individual are being informed and sent home."

The Suffolk County Department of Health will notify those who were found to be in close contact with the person after the contact tracing investigation.
According to the state COVID-19 school report card, as of Wednesday one case was reported within the district. A staff member of Sayville High School also tested positive for the coronavirus.
