Piccirillo 'Cautiously Optimistic' After Election Night Results
The unofficial votes Tuesday night say challenger Anthony Piccirillo beat out incumbent William LIndsay, but it's still too close to call.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY - The highly-contested Suffolk County legislative 8th district race ended too close to call on Tuesday night, but Republican Anthony Piccirillo remains "cautiously optimistic."
According to the unofficial votes, after all districts reported, the challenger beat out incumbent Democrat William Lindsay III by just a few hundred votes. The count at the end of the night was 9,130 votes for Piccirillo and 8,907 for Lindsay.
However, the race isn't over yet. Over the next few days, members of the Suffolk County Board of Elections will be counting and adding all the absentee ballots to get the final results. Once all the votes are in, an official winner will be declared.

"Hard work pays off! We are going to go to absentees, I just don’t know how many of them yet. I want to thank the voters of the 8 legislative district for putting their trust and faith in me," Piccirillo said in a statement. "I look forward to being a true public servant. We are cautiously optimistic about the absentees and know we will be victorious at the end of this."
