Residents Question New Office Building Proposal
A vacant lot just off North Main Street is the site of a proposed zone change

SAYVILLE, NY — At last Thursday's Town of Islip board meeting, some residents questioned a developer's plans for a wooded lot at the intersection of Overton Street and North Main Street. The lot at 289 North Main Street is currently vacant and the developer would need to remove trees to erect the proposed office building and receive a change of zone.
At least 20 people attended who were opposed to the proposal, Sayville resident Keenan Boyle told Patch and some spoke to voice their concerns.
"I’m opposed because the zoning is currently residential and they want to build an office building. The developer's plan is to change the zoning to suit his needs despite the effect it’ll have on the aesthetics of the neighborhood. He’ll make money by renting or selling the building and all the neighbors will have to deal with higher traffic and an office space instead of houses," Keenen said.

"The road there is very dangerous already and added traffic will cause more accidents. Also, there are plenty of other empty buildings in the area that would be perfectly suited to their needs."
The developer, Kings Associates Holding, wants to build a 3,000 square feet office building on the one-way street, while reserving about 50,000 square feet to remain forested. A decision was reserved for a to-be -announced future date by the board.
