Sayville Tennis Team Undefeated For First Time In 12 Years

The girl's varsity tennis team claimed the league III title for the first time since 2009.

SAYVILLE, NY — The Sayville High School tennis girl's tennis team is going strong this season — going undefeated for the first time in 12 years.

The varsity team, lead by Coach Stephen Aronsen, went 12-0 and claimed the league III title for the first time since 2009.

The winning doubles teams include players Jenna Guerra and Sasha Gagnon at number 1, Sara Jaklitsch and Riley Lapine at number 3, and Kate Leigh-Manuell and Karishma Patel at number 4.

There also hasn't been an All-State Tennis player from Sayville since 2011, when one of the athletes on the Boys Team was all-state.

Hoping to continue the winning streak for singles tennis includes student-athlete Mary Madigan, who will be representing division II at the county championship this Thursday as the number 1 seed. Abby Breen is the number 2 seed and Meredith Albertelli is the number 4 seed.

In addition, the top four singles players are all from Sayville as well as the first, third, and fourth-seeded doubles teams.

Local student-athlete Kylie Person also currently ranks number 2 in singles.

The girls will be competing at counties on Thursday (singles only) and Friday (doubles and singles).
