SAYVILLE, NY — A popular Sayville restaurant announced on Tuesday they would be closing after ten years in business. American Cheese initially stayed open for takeout during the coronavirus pandemic shutdown but closed in May. The owners Erin Nicosia and Christian Lennon announced a permanent closure in a letter to their customers. An official reason wasn't given but many fans of the gourmet cheese-focused eatery speculated the pandemic forced the decision.

"It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that we must announce we will not be reopening. It has been an amazing 10 years and we owe that one hundred percent to our loyal customers who are now our friends. We owe it to you, and every awesome hard working employee that helped us not only do what we do, but brought their creativity to make it so much more. They were the friendly faces at the tables, the knowledge behind the counter, and the ones enduring the heat of a restaurant kitchen. Most of them did all three, right next to Christian and myself."

We need to thank our best friends who simply came to hang out, but didn't flinch to jump in and help where ever needed when things got hectic. After the Summer we'll be seeking out our next adventure so please stay tuned. A friend once said, 'Don't be sad that it's over, be happy it happened.' See you soon."
