Study: Sayville is 2nd 'Most Irish Place' in New York

The study conducted by NerdWallet was released on Monday.

In honor of St. Patrick’s Day, NerdWallet set out to find the ”most Irish place” in New York.

Pearl River in Rockland County landed the top spot, but the rest of the top-10 is filled with Long Island towns, including Sayville at No. 2.

The rankings compiled by the personal finance website are based on the percentage of residents with Irish ancestry (towns with populations of fewer than 10,000 were not included in the study). In Sayville, that figure is 40.6 percent.

Here’s what NerdWallet wrote about Sayville:

Residents of this South Shore community can easily get in touch with their Irish roots by visiting the “Little Shop of Shamrocks” for authentic gifts or Crickets, which bills itself as a “true” Irish pub and earns stellar online reviews for its fish and chips and its atmosphere. Residents here make it a point to support the Bayport-Blue Point St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Little Shop of Shamrocks is actually in Islip, but Sayville does have its own store devoted to everything Irish: Irish Crossroads at 18 Main Street.

Long Island communities coming in Nos. 2-10: Sayville, Garden City, Rockville Centre, East Islip, Massapequa Park, Babylon, Floral Park, Miller Place and West Islip.
