St. John's Lutheran Church, Sayville, presents Carol Weitner in a public recital in celebration of the
First Anniversary of its 3 manual, 39 rank Peragallo pipe organ on Thursday, August 22 at 7 pm.
Organist Carol Weitner plays a festive summer program of Mexican and Canadian music together with American Jazz, featuring composers Ramón Noble, Denis Bédard, William Albright, George
Shearing, Billy Strayhorn and more – even some Gershwin – in the air-conditioned, newly renovated space at 48 Greene Avenue, Sayville. Ms. Weitner, an accomplished organist, earned
the Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Organ Performance as well as the Performer's Certificate from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY. She has performed extensively in both the US
and Europe.
One of the goals in building the new pipe organ was to share it. During the past year the church and community members have heard the organ dedicated and played in worship services by the resident organist, Cynthia Holden. St. John's Church also served as host for the American Guild of Organist's Children's Choir Festival, organist Mark Pacoe played the dedicatory recital; SōLI (Singers of Long Island) performed their Tenth Anniversary Concert with organ and the Long Island Brass Guild, and the instrument was used for the 2019 AGO Scholarship Auditions.
