Town Board Celebrates Community Ambulance Member

Shawn O'Sullivan of the Community Ambulance Company was recently honored at a ceremony held at the Loughlin Vineyards.

Shawn O’Sullivan of the Community Ambulance Company was recently honored for 29 years of dedicated service in the emergency medical field. At a recent ceremony held at the Loughlin Vineyards in Sayville, the Company dedicated their newest ambulance in his honor.

O’Sullivan joined the Community Ambulance Company in April 1995 and currently serves as a paramedic, the highest level of care in the emergency medical services. He served as Captain in 1998 and 1999 and climbed the ranks through the positions of Second Assistant Chief and First Assistant Chief before serving as Chief of Department in 2004.

In 2005, O’Sullivan was elected as Administrative Secretary on the Board of Directors and was appointed as Treasurer later that year. He served as a Board of Director from 2007 to 2009 and then as President of the Board of Directors in 2010. He currently serves as Administrative Secretary on the Board of Directors.

He has been instrumental in securing grants for the Community Ambulance Company, funding various vital pieces of equipment and apparatus. He also serves as the Director of Youth Squad, which has grown to more than 40 members under his leadership. He helps to instruct children from ages 14 to 18 in the skills necessary to handle medical emergencies.
