2 Scarsdale Schools Test Positive For Legionella Bacteria

The tests were conducted earlier in the month.

SCARSDALE, NY — Two schools in the Scarsdale district have reported Legionella bacteria in their water.

The bacteria, which is the cause of Legionnaires' Disease, was found at the Quaker Ridge School and Scarsdale Middle School, WABC-TV reported.

Testing for the bacteria was conducted Sept. 4, the Daily Voice said.

Students were given water bottles for drinking, and all drinking stations that did not have UV filtration systems were covered.

Schools in Ohio and Pennsylvania, which have been unoccupied since March, reported multiple cases of the bacteria, The New York Times said.

Experts have advised that water left to stagnate in pipes because of lockdowns could cause problems unless the water systems were maintained.
