Engel Blasts House Republicans' Budget; Weigh In
Scarsdale representative calls fiscal plan 'tone deaf.'
Echoing his counterpart Nita Lowey (D) in northern Westchester, congressman Eliot Engel (D-Scarsdale, Bronx) has weighed in on the House Republicans' budget plan, labeling it "tone deaf" and "damaging."
"My Republican colleagues have forgotten there was an election a few short months ago where these very policies were soundly rejected by the American people," Engel said. "No matter what kind of dressing they put on it, this budget is just a rehash of those rejected, failed policies."
"The guts of this plan to balance the budget in 10 years come from massive cuts to anything and everything which would benefit low- to middle-income families," he added. "It will lead to a loss of 750,000 jobs in this year alone if it was adopted—a return to the job loss numbers from the end of the Bush Administration."
