Hartsdale Man Faces Computer Tampering Charges

Police said he hacked into someone else's computer and posted without permission.

HARTSDALE, NY — A 65-year-old Hartsdale man was accused of hacking into someone's online account and posting without permission. On July 15, the State Police Campus Sexual Assault Victims Unit and the State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (SP Hawthorne) arrested John F. Mahoney, 65, of Hartsdale.

He was charged with third-degree computer tampering and third-degree computer trespass, felonies, and second-degree aggravated harassment, a misdemeanor.

Police said the arrest was the result of an 11-month investigation.

Mahoney was accused of hacking into the victim's online account and posting an inappropriate photo without the victim's permission.

He was arraigned in the Town of Greenburgh Court and sent to the Westchester County Jail on $2,500 bail or $5,000 bond.

The Westchester County District Attorney's Office High Technology Crime Unit assisted in the case.

Mahoney is scheduled to return to court July 16.
