Holocaust Survivor to Visit, Speak in Scarsdale

A man who lived through the military devastation and cultural atrocities of WWII in Europe will visit the village next month and sound off on his trials in the '40s.

Holocaust survivor and author Fred Gross will speak at Westchester Reform Temple Friday, April 5 at 6:15 p.m. for the temple's "Service of Responsibility."

Gross is the author of One Step Ahead of Hitler: A Jewish Child's Journey through France. 

"The annual service commemorates the Holocaust and urges the community to end genocide in our time," said Felicia Block, Special Projects Coordinator with the temple. "Mr. Gross' book recounts his quest to discover the tale of his family's survival, which he learned of only as an adult, and how the events of his youth continue to shape his life and experiences."

"The music for this evening is sponsored by the Stephen H. Merkel Fund for Yiddish Music and Culture to honor the memory of Westchester Reform Temple’s beloved Cantor Merkel z'l," Block added.

Gross' speech and the rest of the program is free and open to the public.
