Scarsdale firefighters responded to a slate of calls over past days, tackling smoky schools and parkway accidents. Here's a round-up:

Sunday, May 12, 3:36 p.m. — Fire authorities responded to an elevator emergency button being pressed at 3 Christie Pl. When they arrived, firefighters learned a 20-month-old child sounded the alarm accidentally.

Sunday, May 12, 10:08 a.m. — A resident on Chase Road flagged down firefighters and told them his parrot had escaped, and perched on a tree limb high off the ground. Authorities tried to coax the loose bird down using their ladder truck and a gentle spray of water, but had no luck.

Saturday, May 11, 12:24 p.m. — Smoke from a school barbeque set off the fire alarms at Heathcote Elementary on Palmer Avenue.

Saturday, May 11, 6:50 a.m. — Scarsdale firefighters responded to a one-car accident on the Hutchinson Parkway North; the vehicle careened off a guard rail. A passer-by removed the driver from the car, who was then transported to the hospital. Authorities cleaned up spilled fuel on the pavement.
